About the Ensemble | Singers In Accord

Singers in Accord is uniquely organized as a singer-led choral ensemble dedicated to exploring our humanity through performances of culturally diverse choral music. The group collaborates with a new conductor, performing artist, or artistic ensemble in each concert to create distinctive concert experiences for its singers and audience members. Singers in Accord strives to enrich the cultural life of the community through outreach, education and innovative performances.

Serenade of the Heart – Psalms, Songs and Dances of the Romantic Era

SIA welcomes internationally renowned choral conductor and clinician Kathy Saltzman Romey for a musical journey of Psalms, Songs and Dances of the Romantic Era. Dr. Romey is the Director of Choral Activities at the University of Minnesota and Artistic Director of the Minnesota Chorale.

Serenade of the Heart illuminates the personal expression of the 19th Century in a program of sacred and secular vocal music by Mendelssohn, Schubert, Brahms and Rheinberger.

Opening with Psalms settings and closing with an Evening Song, the concert features Brahms’ romantic Liebeslieder Walzer, 18 songs on poetry from Eastern Europe, which eloquently portray the fragility of the heart in sentiments of love, passion, desire, and betrayal. The chorale sings the entire concert using the native German texts. The talented mother-son duo of Patricia and Bill Munson performs the piano four-hands accompaniment for the Brahms pieces.

On February 12th, Singers in Accord will collaborate with J.D. Steele and the MacPhail Community Youth Choir for a special benefit concert for Shangilia Foundation USA to help in their effort to build a child rescue center and residence for homeless children in the slums of Nairobi, Kenya. This center will be the new home of the Shangilia Youth Choir of Kenya, which provides performing arts training to the children that live at Shangilia, building self-confidence, teamwork, and the concept of excellence in these children that would otherwise be lost.
