Matthew Mehaffey Guest Conductor

The Unicorn, the Gorgon and the Manticore

Experience a whimsical fusion of song and dance this spring as Singers in Accord joins forces with guest conductor Matthew Mehaffey for a breathtaking performance of Gian Carlo Menotti’s choral masterpiece, The Unicorn, the Gorgon and the Manticore. This enchanting "madrigal fable" comes to life through a vibrant collaboration with choreographer Penelope Freeh, the University of Minnesota dancers, and a live chamber orchestra. The story follows a reclusive Poet who lives in a castle and appears in town on three succesive Sundays, each time with a different mythical pet, symbolizing the three stages of the Poet’s life.

The animal-themed journey continues with the playful wit of Eric Whitacre’s Animal Crackers and the lively and energetic Unicornis Captivatur by Ola Gjeilo. Don’t miss this extraordinary celebration of myth, movement, and music.
